muGrid Analytics Selected to Provide Technical Assistance to National Solar Competition

muGrid Analytics is pleased to announce that we have been selected as a featured technical consultant for the Solar in Your Community Challenge sponsored by the Department of Energy. This $5M nationwide competition is aimed at expanding solar to low and moderate income (LMI) households; state, local, and tribal governments; and non-profit organizations, all of which have been underserved in the rapidly developing solar market.

As a technical expert, we will be available to support dozens of teams from around the country as they develop innovative, scalable business models that aim to deploy solar projects ranging in size from 25 kW to 5 MW. The target customer mix in the shared community solar model is at least 20% LMI or 60% non-profit. Part of the DOE SunShot Initiative, DOE is making seed funding available to the teams to develop their concepts as well as prize money at the completion of the program.

We are excited to work with the Solar in Your Community teams on this important effort.

Our experience helping develop solar projects

While at the National Renewable Energy LaboratoryDr. Travis Simpkins led numerous solar feasibility studies and developed the bankable business case for solar (and solar plus storage) projects in both the public and private sector, including multiple shared solar models. At muGrid Analytics, Dr. Simpkins has built the techno-economic business case for commercial solar projects undertaken by multiple Fortune 500 companies including Host and Hyatt Hotels — including the largest solar project on the island of Maui— and Avalon Bay Communities, one of the largest operators of multi-family housing in the US. We are excited to bring our experience developing innovative shared and community solar business models to the teams in this competition.

We look forward to working with both the staff at the DOE staff and the teams as well as others interested in developing community solar projects. Please contact us for more information and to discuss how we can help your project succeed.
