Campus Minigrid Study for Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians

muGrid performed an initial feasibility study for a set of 16 tribal facilities plus residences in the Odanah neighborhood, which would comprise a large-scale medium voltage minigrid serving the entire main core of tribal facilities. We studied solar PV, battery energy storage, utility infrastructure requirements, and the incorporation of existing fossil fuel generators already onsite. This study formed the foundation for the engineering impact study of 2023, and a plan to implement the minigrid including the Birch Hill neighborhood in collaboration with Bayfield Electric.
